Disney+ Hotstar launched new plans along with a more expensive subscription fee for its subscribers.

In the midst of the Coronavirus outbreak, Walt Disney debuted its Disney+ streaming service in India on April 3rd. It is available on Disney plus Hotstar, the country’s most popular OTT platform, with over 300 million monthly active users.

Today, with the launch of Disney+ Hotstar, we take another significant step toward fulfilling our pledge to produce high-quality, compelling tales for India that have not only entertained but also impacted people’s lives, a promise that is even more relevant in these trying times. Uday Shankar, Chairman, Star & Disney India and President, The Walt Disney Company APAC, stated.

Disney+ Hotstar to be the second most expensive OTT in India

After Netflix, Disney+ Hotstar plans would be the second most expensive OTT service in India, with a premium membership costing Rs 1499. However, many Disney+ Hotstar users may find this new feature difficult to accept. Hotstar will raise its annual membership price to Rs 1,499 to accommodate the addition of the complete Disney collection.

Users will also be able to access the OTT service’s free content library, which includes films such as Chhichhore and Mission Mangal, as well as soap operas such as Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai. However, there will be no Disney+ originals or series in the free content collection.

Disney+ Hotstar plans to price

While Netflix’s basic plan costs Rs 5,988/- per year, Amazon’s Prime membership costs Rs 999/- per year and includes access to its music streaming service as well as other shopping discounts.

Disney+ Hotstar plans are priced according to the streaming quality (HD or 4K) and the maximum number of devices that customers will be able to access at the same time.

Plan for Rs 499 per year

Disney+ Hotstar plans now have an entry point that includes the complete library of entertainment. However, the material will only be available on mobile phones and the streaming quality would be restricted to HD. This plan is comparable to Netflix’s mobile package.

Plan for Rs 899 per year

The plan allows you to stream HD video on two devices at the same time, and there are no restrictions on the devices’ form factors. It works with both mobile phones and televisions.

As people spend more time alone, their use of OTT and other services has increased, and this trend is anticipated to continue. “We believe that the power of Disney narrative, delivered through Hotstar’s technology, will bring comfort, pleasure, and inspiration to our fans during these trying times, Shakar added.
