The Best Netflix Comedy Series That Will Liven A Gloomy Day

The Best Netflix Comedy Series That Will Liven A Gloomy Day

Our sense of humor is one of our most distinguishing characteristics, which is why it is difficult to pick just one favorite comedy program. Do you like sitcoms set in the workplace? Perhaps weird musicals? What about a mockumentary series or a dramedy that swings more towards the serious end of the comic spectrum?

What we deem amusing is subjective, but fortunately, Netflix offers so many excellent comedy programs that you’re sure to add at least one to your list. Here are our choices for the best comedy series on Netflix.

  • Dan Levy

Cast:

  • Eugene Levy
  • Catherine O’Hara
  • Dan Levy
  • Annie Murphy
  • Jennifer Robertson
  • Tim Rozon

This Canadian comedy starring Eugene Levy and Catherine O’Hara is about a rich family having to cut down on their lavish lifestyle, with humorous consequences. Johnny Rose, a wealthy video-store tycoon, loses his money when his company manager fails to pay his taxes, played by Levy. Moira, a former television drama star who must relocate to Schitt’s Creek with her husband and their two spoiled children, is played by O’Hara.

Johnny purchased the village as a joke when the family had much more money than they ever could spend, but it now serves as a humorous wake-up call for the family. Over the course of six seasons, the show has given us memorable characters — Dan Levy’s David and Annie Murphy’s Alexis stand out — and memorable stories that, unexpectedly, made us cheer for this dysfunctional family. There isn’t a better feel-good comedy series on this list. Or maybe a more insightful one.

2. Little Things

Director:

  • Ajay Bhuyan
  • Ruchir Arun

Cast:

  • Mithila Palkar
  • Dhruv Sehgal

IMDb: 8.3/10

No. of Seasons: 4

Little Things was not a Netflix original, although the streaming service acquired the rights later on. As of October 15, you may watch all four seasons of the TV program on Netflix. It is centered on the life of a young, unmarried couple in Mumbai, Kavya (Mithila Palkar) and Dhruv (Dhruv Sehgal). Little Things, as the title implies, chronicles the couple’s everyday life and their love throughout time.

What’s wonderful about this Indian series is that it’s lighthearted while yet being relevant and accessible. You will often discover that they have a lot of “little things” in common with the pair. This is like a relationship reflector for young couples who are still trying to make their way in the world. If you’re looking for a fast and feel-good viewing, Little Things is for you.

3. The Good Place

Director: Michael Schur

Cast:

  • Kristen Bell
  • William Jackson Harper
  • Jameela Jamil
  • D’Arcy Carden
  • Manny Jacinto
  • Ted Danson

IMDb: 8.2/10

No. of Seasons: 4

Michael Schur departs from his typical office humor for this afterlife comedy centered on Eleanor Shellstrop (Kristen Bell), who discovers herself in “the good place” when her life ends. Though she is told this is because she has lived a decent, selfless life, Eleanor believes she is a horrible person who is only in this paradise because of the architect’s (Ted Danson) error.

Schur is able to take risks and produce a genuinely absurd show while still dealing with morality and other philosophical problems because of this infinite, fictitious universe. While the first season is fantastic, a spoiler-filled surprise in the second season truly unlocks the show’s potential and takes that daring style of narrative through to the finish, replete with running Blake Bortles jokes and all-knowing burritos.

4. Hasmukh

Director: Nikhil Gonsalves

Cast:

  • Vir Das
  • Ranvir Shorey
  • Manoj Pahwa

IMDb: 5.3/10

No. of Seasons: 1

If you like dark comedy, you may like this Netflix original Indian series featuring the comic Vir Das. The TV program’s main storyline is a rags-to-riches story regarding an Indian comedian who rises from performing at tiny rural gatherings to a major televised stand-up performance. His only issue is that in order to perform at his best, he must murder someone.

Hasmukh is an enjoyable watch, for the most part, thanks to its unusual plot. However, it suffers from inconsistent scripting, with some jokes landing successfully while others fall flat.

5. Sex Education

Director: Laurie Nunn

Cast:

  • Asa Butterfield
  • Gillian Anderson
  • Ncuti Gatwa
  • Emma Mackey
  • Connor Swindells
  • Kedar Williams-Stirling
  • Alistair Petrie
  • Mimi Keene
  • Aimee Lou Wood
  • Chaneil Kular
  • Simone Ashley
  • Tanya Reynolds
  • Mikael Persbrandt
  • Patricia Allison
  • Anne-Marie Duff
  • Rakhee Thakrar
  • Jemima Kirke

IMDb: 8.3/10

No. of Seasons: 3

Like Nick Kroll’s Big Mouth, this British teem comedy is dedicated to addressing all of the uncomfortable, taboo subjects connected with sex, but in a non-animated format. The show follows a mother-son team as they try to get through those “talks” that no one wants to have.

Gillian Anderson plays Dr Jean Milburn, the mother of Otis (Asa Butterfield), a young sex therapist who has to deal with his mother’s domineering ways at home while also dispensing his own counsel to his pals as part of an underground treatment network. Despite the program’s fondness for ’80s high-school clichés, there’s genuine depth and care put into how these teenagers are depicted and their relationships with sex on the show. In addition, Anderson has superb comic timing.

6. Kota Factory

Director: Raghav Subbu

Cast:

  • Mayur More
  • Ranjan Raj
  • Alam Khan
  • Jitendra Kumar
  • Revathi Pillai
  • Urvi Singh
  • Ahsaas Channa

IMDb: 9.2/10

No. of Seasons: 2

Students from around India flock to Kota’s coaching facilities to study for IIT entrance examinations, and this Netflix original series follows the lives of these aspiring engineers as they navigate their way through the city. It’s a comical but pitiful look at the lives of high school students trying to get into the world’s most prestigious engineering school, shot in black and white.

It depicts the reality of what these young people have to cope with, such as living in impoverished conditions, having to deal with mounting financial obligations, and having to study for long periods of time each day. The treatment, on the other hand, is quite lighthearted, and you won’t find yourself dreading the episodes as you go through them.

7. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend

Director:

  • Rachel Bloom
  • Aline Brosh McKenna

Cast:

  • Rachel Bloom
  • Vincent Rodriguez III
  • Santino Fontana
  • Donna Lynne Champlin
  • Pete Gardner
  • Vella Lovell
  • Gabrielle Ruiz
  • David Hull
  • Scott Michael Foster
  • Skylar Astin

IMDb: 7.8/10

No. of Seasons: 4

The show’s title and position as a rom-com/musical hybrid on The CW may put you off at first, but as heroine Rebecca Bunch will explain, the issue with Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is much more complex than that. Although the program crosses genres often, it never quite becomes a dramedy due to the superb comic timing of its outstanding ensemble, headed by Rachel Bloom as Rebecca and Donna Lynne Champlin as Bex’s colleague and BFF, Paula, who also appear in the show.

While the show’s songs (such as “Settle for Me,” “Textmergency,” “West Covina,” and “Dream Ghost”) contain plenty of comedy, it’s the show’s throwaway instances that really make it stand out: Paula the attempting to sing raccoon, Daryl declaring himself a “bothsexual,” Heather’s expertise of mating signals, and every aside spoken by Father Brah. If watching this program makes us crazier than we already are, then so be it.

8. Bhaag Beanie Bhaag

Director:

  • Abi Varghese
  • Debbie Rao
  • Ishaan Nair

Cast:

  • Swara Bhaskar
  • Ravi Patel
  • Varun Thakur
  • Mona Ambegaonkar
  • Girish Kulkarni
  • Dolly Singh

IMDb: 3.8/10

No. of Seasons: 1

An ambitious comedian abandons her comfortable but unfulfilling existence to pursue stand-up in the face of disapproving parents, a tangled love life, and her own inner critic.

Bhaag Swara Bhasker plays the lead in the Indian romantic comedy mini-series Beanie Bhaag. Supporting actors include Mona Ambegaonkar, Girish Kulkarni, and stand-up comedians Varun Thakur as well as Ravi Patel in Abi Varghese, Debbie Rao, and Ishaan Nair’s comedy flick. On the 4th of December, 2020, it will be available on Netflix.

Swara Bhasker claims, “There’s more to this program than simply laughs. As a girl growing up in Indian culture, you’re taught to be submissive, listen to your parents, and put other people’s feelings before your own. This book is about that path of self-discovery. Most females, particularly those from South Asia, will be able to identify with this tale. The parents, on the other hand, are not evil.

They’re simply regular individuals coping with the effects of their personal upbringing and upbringing in general. If your parents don’t understand you now, it gives you hope that they will understand you one day.” Moreover, “the standup parts” were “terrifying” to her.

9. American Vandal

Director: Tony Yacenda

Cast:

  • Tyler Alvarez
  • Griffin Gluck
  • Jimmy Tatro

IMDb: 8.2/10

No. of Seasons: 2

Make A Murderer, one of Netflix’s own programs, inspired this adolescent mockumentary on the vandalism of 27 school staff vehicles, which Netflix chose to create. Because of all the evidence pointing to the neighborhood troublemaker/burnout, the investigation seems to be closed before it has even begun.

However, as our heroes dig further into the events that occurred, they find that everyone is now a potential suspect. It’s a funny comedy, but it’s also becoming more and more stressful as the mystery unfolds. Season two continues where season one left off, with the adolescent investigating a poop plot that makes the previous season’s sexist humor seem positively mild. Netflix, sadly, has ended the show’s run.

10. Comedy Premium League

Director: Sakshi Khanna

Cast:

  • Urooj Ashfaq
  • Tanmay Bhat
  • Mallika Dua
  • Rahul Dua
  • Aakash Gupta
  • Rohan Joshi
  • Prajakta Koli
  • Aadar Malik
  • Samay Raina
  • Rytasha Rathore

IMDb: 4.6/10

No. of Seasons: 1
