The story revolves around a bookstore manager in New York, Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley), who falls in love with an aspiring writer Guinevere Beck (Elizabeth Lail). The charming love that blooms in the beginning, becomes alarming when Beck becomes Joe’s obsession. He is ready to go to any extent for the sake of his love and for getting to her.

To make sure that nothing comes in between them, Joe removes every obstacle that comes in their way, even people, for that matter. How he gets to Beck and what steps he takes to ensure no one comes between them form the plot of the first season of You.

In the second season, however, to start over with a new identity, Joe Goldberg moves to Los Angeles. Things go downhill when Joe meets passionate chef Love Quinn. He regressed to his old habits of obsession and violence again upon meeting Love. Joe seeks to make his connection with Love flourish at all costs to avoid the destiny of his previous romantic endeavors as he attempts to establish a new love.

Each character is cast perfectly. Not just the lead characters, who fit their part like it is meant for them, other characters such as Candace Stone, Forty Quinn, Ethan, Love Quinn all own their role, and the viewers can not fathom replacing them with anyone else. Joe Goldberg, who is more of a psychopath, played by Penn Badgley, plays his part to perfection.

Striking the right balance between being charming and a psychopath who goes on killing people, Joe, as a character, won many hearts and even left female fans drooling over him. At the same time, Joe left fans amazed by his actions in the show, Guinevere Beck, who Joe stalks and falls in love with in season 1, played by Elizabeth Lail, garnered love from fans worldwide.

In the second season, Victoria Pedretti, who plays Love Quinn, Joe falls in love with after moving to Los Angeles.

Besides the You web series detailed review, the show has an IMDb rating of 7.7/10. The show, however, gathered praise and positive reviews from audiences. The positive word of mouth after the first season’s release made the viewers even more excited for the next season.
