The Family Man Season Review
The series stars Manoj Bajpayee as Srikant Tiwari, a secret service worker for the Threat Analysis and Surveillance Cell (TASC). He is a middle-class man working undercover as an intelligence officer for this fictitious branch of the National Investigation Agency.
The Family Man-Season 1
Following the life of Srikant Tiwari being played by Manoj Bajpai, the first season of the series details the narrative of this senior official of Threat Analysis and Surveillance Cell (TASC) of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) of India. He is shown as a married man with two kids, and his life is detailed as a little tumultuous.
The series transports the viewer into the life of Srikant. Along with his colleague and best friend, JK Talpade, he constitutes most of the storyline. Tiwari is the lead of an investigation into a probable terror attack. Their and the force’s work entails stopping Missions Zulfiqar from being successful at any cost.
It is based on real-life incidents, and thus, newspaper articles served as inspiration for the actor’s performances. The episodes of season 1 focus not just on the terrorist attacks, the people behind them, and their planning but also the dangers and risks are taken by the TASC officials and even the personal struggles of Srikant.
The season starts with the coast guard near Kocchi catching some terrorists and TASC official Srikant persuading one of the terrorists to surrender. Bomb explosions and terror plans are set in motion to be taken place in Delhi, and TASC officials find multiple obstacles in capturing the real culprit.
There are instances where TASC is conflicted and finds out that there are terrorist operatives who are college students. These students plan to create havoc in party meetings and celebrations. There are standoffs, and every police encounter becomes deadlier each time.
With each standoff, there are multiple casualties, and multiple culprits are dying. At one point, TASC even labels innocent college students who were playing a prank as terrorists so that they aren’t to blame for taking innocent lives.
TASC is criticized a lot of times for making bad decisions, and Srikant is sent to Srinagar as part of the punishment. But soon, Srikant learns that even Srinagar is a part of the mission. Most-wanted terrorists are planning a big attack on Delhi, and Srikant is far from catching them and near.
Moosa, a major player in the upcoming Delhi terrorist attack, kidnaps a chemical engineer to create and detonate a gas leak. The season ends on a cliffhanger as the gas leak reaches hazardous levels and one of the tanks explodes.
Although fast in the context of the terrorist attack, the season has given most focus on this; there has also been significant focus on the private life and the struggles Srikant faces with his wife.
The Family Man-Season 2
The second season of The Family Man shows the onset of Mission Zulfikar 2.0, where a Tiger-esqu military resistance is the main focus, and their plan of a terrorist attack is in motion. The Family Man Season 2 was released on 4 June 2021.
After the cliffhanger ending of season 1, season 2 of the Family Man is a whole new twist. Now Srikant, the protagonist, is working an IT job and going to therapy with his wife to sort out family matters. There is also a whole change of scenery as we move to Sri Lanka and another terrorist attack to stop the Sri Lankan PM from having bilateral talks to establish peace.
One of the strangest things is to see Srikant not being a TASC official anymore, even after saving the capital of India from a major gas leak in the previous season. The new season starts with an attack on the Sri Lankan base and Subbu, the man behind the killing of several TASC officers, getting arrested who will be assassinated later.
The main mission of TASC is to capture all culprits who are trying to create havoc and deter the bilateral talks.
PM Basu doesn’t agree to change the venue or time of the talks even after knowing that these forces threaten her life.
There are more personal struggles in Srikant’s life this season, but interestingly, Srikant joins the TASC force and helps the force stop any attacks during the bilateral talks. This time, the assassination mission has been called Mission Zulfikar 2.0, headed by Major Sameer.
There are C4 detonators that have been put in place that are found by the best mate and colleague of Srikant, JK, in time. The efforts of TASC dismantled the plan of the terrorist attack, and the bilateral talks went as planned.
This season shows more of Srikant’s family struggles as his daughter is kidnapped to keep him away from doing anything substantial in the case.
