Tata Group’s Nelco to Provide Satellite Broadband in India
Nelco and Telestat in the final round of talks to bring Lightspeed satellite broadband services in India. Services to start from 2024 across the globe.
Tata Group’s Nelco is all set to bring high-speed internet access in rural India. Discussions are going on with Canadian firm Telesat concerning this. The two leading firms are looking into ways of providing the best interest services at the most affordable prices. Though India ranks second globally in the number of internet users, the rural population still needs to go much ahead in catching up with internet users in urban areas. The new collaboration is likely to present various opportunities and open new gateways in every rural household.
Reports state that Telesat’s Lightspeed brand will be used for internet services which will be available in India by 2024. A B2B model is going to be worked out to improve the efficiency of transmission to remote areas.
Telesat plans to invest around $5 billion in this project for a constellation consisting of 298 LEO satellites. These are closer to Earth and can provide stronger signals than the traditional satellites. The Tata-Telesat union is eagerly awaiting the release of the new Spacecom policy which has clear guidelines on the setting up of LEO satellite systems.
There will be strong competition as most of the big names in the Telecom industry are planning to widen their satellite communication services. These include hotshots like Musk’s Starlink, Bharti Airtel’s OneWeb and also Amazon’s Kuiper Project. To know more, continue reading at Selectra’s News Section
