Saudia Chooses Inmarsat For Inflight Broadband Services
Inmarsat’s GX Aviation solution to offer inflight satellite broadband services to Saudi Arabia’s national flag carrier, Saudia. Being a pioneer of advanced technology, this announcement comes as an additional accomplishment for Inmarsat.
Exciting news for Inmarsat. A fresh challenge awaits the Satcom company. In a recent announcement, officials from Inmarsat have made public some great news which is certainly another milestone for the company. Saudia, Saudi Arabia’s national flag carrier, has chosen Inmarsat to be their provider for inflight broadband satellite services.
Passengers abode Saudia flights will be able to enjoy the smart broadband experience provided by Inmarsat’s GX Aviation solution. GDC Advanced Technology will be assisting Inmarsat in this project by providing its technical and engineering expertise.
Inmarsat’s GX Aviation and OneFi solutions, together with GDC Advanced Technology’s next-generation terminal, will ensure our passengers have access to world-class connectivity on all flights operated by our Airbus A321neo and A321XLR aircraft, said Captain Ibrahim S. Koshy, CEO of SAUDIA.
The first trials will be conducted in Saudia’s upcoming fleet of 35 Airbus A321neo as well as the Airbus A321XLR aircraft. GX Aviation will make use of GDC’s terminal to connect to the respective flights. The company will utilise the expertise from OneFi solutions to enable monetisation of onboard services like food orders, beverages, e-books etc within the flight.
There are high expectations clubbed with this operation as it will be yet another innovative step in the history of Inmarsat.

GX Aviation is all set to welcome Saudia as its first launch customer ever in Saudi Arabia. As per an official statement, the collaboration is expected to take wings and offer broadband services successfully by 2022. Thereafter flight passengers will be able to access the internet for browsing, streaming audio/video, conducting financial transactions on various e-commerce platforms and staying connected to their dear ones while on air.
We hear that Inmarsat is reaching out for further constellations in its very promising development plans. Seven satellite launches have been scheduled to happen by 2024. We also hear that the first event will happen on 21/12/2021 with the grand launch of the Inmarsat-6 fleet (I-6 F1). Cheers to a fantastic voyage ahead!
