Odisha At The Receiving End Of More Telecom Services in 2022

Telecom services to undergo major improvement in Odisha. State to get around 4K telecom towers soon & 4G connectivity to be established in rural regions throughout.

Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister of Railways, Communications and Electronics & Information Technology has made a riveting announcement last Sunday. Telecom users in Odisha are soon to receive much better services as the Centre has decided to establish around 4K telecom towers in the region soon. Currently, almost 6000 villages have minimum connectivity due to the lack of mobile towers.

Earlier in December 2021, Prime Minister Sri Narendra Modi had given his sanction for installing mobile towers throughout 3,933 selected sites in Odisha.

Mission Purvodaya

The embarkment of Mission Purvodaya is now in the process of being implemented. Let’s hear what our honourable Minister Aswini Viashnaw has to say about the mission:-

“There is a clear instruction from the Prime Minister that not a single village of Odisha should be left out from mobile connectivity. The PM has asked us to conduct a survey and come out with a Cabinet note if any village has still been left out. This is what we called Mission Purvodaya,”

In the press release given by the Minster, he also mentioned how BSNL is performing at a higher level than the previous years as the state-owned telecos has gained adequate financial aid from the Government.

“For the first time, the BSNL has come to operating profit level during last year. This happened because Modi had first approved a package of Rs 90,000 crore in 2019 for the revival of BSNL and MTNL. Now, in this year, again Rs 45,000 crore has been allocated for the two telecom companies to uplift those to the next higher level,” Vaishnaw commented.

Enhanced 4G Connectivity In Odisha

In yet another Rajya Sabha session, Union Minister of State for Communications Devusinh Chauhan has stated that 4000 villages in Odisha are receiving 4G mobile connectivity under the Bharat Net project. From what we hear, almost 2,542 mobile towers will be installed in all the left-wing extremism (LWE)-affected regions, with Odisha getting 483 towers to enhance 4G services in all interior areas.

Overall speculations suggest that Odisha is in for a revolution that is mainly focused on rural internet penetration and enhanced connectivity. This is a move that will put Odisha on the map for improved digital transformation.
