Mismatched Season 1- Plot

Mismatched is based on Sandhya Menon’s best-selling novel ‘When Dimple Met Rishi.‘ Rishi Singh Shekhawat, played by Rohit Saraf, is a young guy who believes in the traditional way of dating: meeting in person, being drunk on love, and has come to Aravalli Institute to find his ‘Future Wife.’

Dimple Ahuja, played by Prajakta Koli, wants to be a tech wizard, and Rishi Singh Shekhawat wants to get married. Dimple is driven, and Rishi is enchanted, and it is a collision of different worlds, dreams, and desires.

The initial attraction between these teens is founded on a flawed notion. Rishi decides he needs to marry young because his grandparents’ relationship was the only successful one he’s experienced. His parents had a failed marriage, and he believes it was because they got married very ‘late.’ Dimple, who lives in Ambala, aspires to become the next Bill Gates. Still, her mother prefers to post her daughter’s picture in shady marriages-making internet groups.

In the first season of this well-liked series, what works is that the directors create a soft corner for all the characters in the audience’s hearts. The campus scenario plays in just the right way, with all the characters holding their grounds pretty well. It is not an elaborate nuanced drama, but it has heart!

Mismatched: How Did It All Start?

Netflix and RSVP movies approached Gazal Dhaliwal, the screenwriter, in late 2018 to adapt the novel ‘When Dimple Met Rishi’ for viewers in India. The novel narrates the story of Dimple and Rishi, two Indian-American teenagers, and their parent’s plans of getting them married.

According to a New York Times report, the book received a positive reception from readers and quickly became a best-selling novel. Before Khurana was hired to direct the series, Dhaliwal had finished writing the script. ‘It was a love story between two real people with real concerns,’ Khurana said of the new script.

The simplicity of the high-school romance at the heart of the book, in contrast to the large-scale candyfloss high school cosmos depicted in Hindi cinema, drew in Dhaliwal. The plot was altered in Jaipur, even though the book is set in the United States.

The series was shot in November 2019, with some sequences shot at the Old Royal School of Jodhpur and the remainder of the scenes shot in Jaipur. The shoot lasted 38–39 days, with the cast members working approximately 12 hours a day. During the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown in India, post-production was completed in May 2020.

This Series has in no way disappointed its Netflix Fans and it’s heartwarming to note that despite the pandemic, the team worked together to continue production.

There is a certain comfort to the storytelling. that makes teenage adolescence look like a statement, rather than a chapter of life, said Poulomi Das of Firstpost.

Antara Kashyap from News18 gave the series 2.5/5-star ratings. According to her, Mismatched is a show that should be enjoyed for what it is: a light teen drama that can be binge-watched throughout a weekend. It doesn’t have much depth, but it’s unfair to demand it from the show in the first place.
