ICC T20 World Cup 2022: Schedule & Where To Watch In India
It seems like just yesterday since Australia was declared T20 World Cup winners in 2021. The ICC has revealed the fixtures for the T20 World Cup 2022 to be held in Australia later this year in October. The competition is set to begin on October 16 and conclude on November 13, 2022.
Background of The ICC T20 World Cup
The ICC confirmed in April 2018 that the competition will take the place of the planned ICC Champions Trophy in 2021. This occurred after the ICC accorded Twenty20 matches between member teams full international status on 1 January 2019.
In October 2019, it was revealed that the ICC was considering scrapping the T20 World Cup Qualifier, which served as a road to the T20 World Cup. As a result, 12 teams from the ICC T20 World Cup 2020 and 4 teams from qualifying tournaments will qualify for the T20 World Cup.
The ICC announced the complete parameters of the tournament’s qualifying process on 23 January 2020. The ICC informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in May 2020 that they retain the right to revoke India’s hosting rights if the BCCI is unable to get a tax exemption from the Government of India for the event.
When the prior edition of the event was being examined in July 2020 owing to the COVID-19 epidemic, Earl Eddings, the president of Cricket Australia, proposed that Australia may host the event in October 2021, with India hosting it the next year.
Schedule Analysis for the T20 World Cup In 2022
According to the calendar, the tournament would include a total of 45 matches over a 29-day span. There are 12 Round 1 matches, 30 Super 12 matches, two semi-final matches, and one final. Round 1 matchups will begin on October 16, while the Super 12 rounds will begin on October 22. The semi-finals will be held on November 9 and 10, followed by the final on November 13.
Australia has picked seven locations for the duration of the World Cup. To preserve the integrity of the Super 12 matches, the majority of Super 12 matches will take place on brand-new surfaces. Geelong will host six Round 1 matches, Hobart will host six Round 1 matches, and Super 12 will host three matches. The remaining Super 12 matches will take place in Brisbane, Sydney, Perth, Sydney, as well as Adelaide.
The timetable becomes somewhat intriguing from a timing standpoint. There are a total of six distinct start times for the match. 5:30 IST, 8:30 IST, 9:30 IST, 12:30 IST, 13:30 IST, as well as 16:30 IST are the times. This is to ensure that the schedule corresponds to the timezone of the destination country.
Meanwhile, Team India has arranged a blockbuster India against Pakistan fixture on October 23 in Melbourne. Melbourne, coincidentally, is also the final destination.
T20 World Cup 2022 Team List
