F1 racing is back with a bang in 2022! The FIA Formula One World Championship 2022 is a projected motor racing sport for Formula One vehicles. It will be the championship’s 73rd season. It is recognised as the highest level of competition for open-wheel racing vehicles by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), the regulatory body of international motorsport. In fact, it is one of the few international sports that can be streamed live in India.

About F1 Championship

The F1 championship will be fought across twenty-three Grands Prix staged around the globe, and it will conclude sooner than in previous years in order to avoid clashing with the FIFA World Cup. Drivers and teams will compete for the World Drivers’ and World Constructors’ Championships, respectively.

It is projected that the 2022 tournament will see substantial revisions to the sport’s technical requirements. These improvements were originally scheduled to take effect in 2021 but were postponed until 2022 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Max Verstappen is the reigning Drivers’ Champion for Red Bull Racing, while Mercedes is the reigning Constructors’ Champion.

Formula 1 Highlights 2022

There are some substantial changes when it comes to F1 2022, and here’s a quick breakdown of the most important highlights:

  • After a two-year hiatus owing to the COVID-19 epidemic, the Australian, Canadian, Japanese, and Singapore Grands Prix rejoined the schedule.
  • The Miami Grand Prix is scheduled to make its debut at Miami International Autodrome in Miami Gardens, Florida.
  • The Grands Prix of Portugal, Styria, and Turkey were omitted from the list of 2022 events. These Grands Prix were introduced to the 2021 schedule particularly to accommodate the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • The Qatar Grand Prix, which debuted at the Losail International Circuit in the 2021 season, is not included on the 2022 schedule. The Grand Prix is scheduled to return in 2023 at a newly constructed track, after a one-year sabbatical to concentrate on hosting the FIFA World Cup.
  • The Chinese Grand Prix was scheduled to be on the 2022 calendar but was omitted owing to Chinese travel limitations imposed in response to the COVID-19 outbreak. The Grand Prix is scheduled to return in 2023.

Changes In Regulation

Race Regulations

Michael Masi, who had functioned as race director since Charlie Whiting’s death in 2019, was relieved of his duties after an investigation into the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Masi was superseded by previous DTM race manager Niels Wittich and World Endurance Championship race officials Eduardo Freitas as part of a race control restructure. The couple will alternate in the job. Herbie Blash, Whiting’s former deputy, has been named the race director’s permanent senior adviser.

Additionally, the FIA will implement an effective virtual race control technique, similar to the video assistant referee used in football, and also a prohibition on team contacts aimed at lobbying race officials. Radio communications among teams and FIA authorities will also be removed from television broadcasts to safeguard race officials. Formula One’s Sporting Advisory Committee will review and submit new unlapping methods prior to the beginning of the season.

Technical Regulations

The technical rules for the 2022 World Championship are scheduled to be overhauled. These improvements were scheduled to take effect in 2021, with teams preparing their vehicles during 2020. However, because of the COVID-19 epidemic, the requirements were postponed until the 2022 championship.

After the postponement was announced, teams were prohibited from developing their 2022 cars during the calendar year 2020. Prior to the season, the FIA said that it expected the performance gap between the quickest and slowest teams on the grid to be reduced by half from 2021 levels.

F1 racers were consulted throughout the development of the new technical rules, which were purposefully meant to be restrictive in order to deter teams from creating radical designs that restricted drivers’ overtaking potential. The FIA established a specialized Working Group, or team of engineers, entrusted with the responsibility of detecting and eliminating regulatory gaps prior to their publication.

Eliminating loopholes could theoretically prevent a single team from fielding a superior vehicle, allowing for more competitiveness throughout the field while also enhancing the cars’ appearance. This mindset was one of the primary objectives of the new legislation. Adrian Newey, the designer of the Red Bull vehicle, said that the alterations were the most substantial in Formula One since the 1983 season.
