Airtel conducts cloud gaming sessions on 5G. Mamba and Mortal, popular gamers played Asphalt 9: Legends via Blackout.
Bharti Airtel conducts the first cloud gaming test session on the 5G network in India. This is in continuation with the 5G testing being conducted in various regions across the country. Held at Manesar, Haryana ( on 3500 MHz high capacity -spectrum band), the popular gamers Mamba(Salman Ahmad) and Mortal (Naman Mathur), participated in the trial by playing Asphalt 9: Legends via Blackout on the OnePlus 9R.
We were totally blown away. This was a high-end PC and console-quality gaming experience on a smartphone. We can say with confidence that 5G will truly unlock the online gaming scene in India and massify by creating opportunities to build and publish games out of India and bringing a lot of talented gamers from small towns to the mainstream. Thank you, Airtel, for giving us this wonderful opportunity, described the gamers after the test play.
According to Airtel,
- The Test game had a speed of more than 1Gbps
- The Latency was just 10 milliseconds
Cloud gaming allows players to enjoy the games without having to download them on their phones. All the processing is done on the cloud and not on the gamers’ phones. This eliminates the need for downloads, storage space, and also the latest hardware.
Bharti Airtel Chief Technology Officer Randeep Sekhon describes cloud gaming to be the “biggest use case of 5G” due to the combination of low latency and high-speed internet.
“Future growth will be driven by the internet of things, gaming, smart sports clothing, health gaming, gamification of traditional media, and 5G-led innovations across cloud gaming, cross-platform gaming, and e-commerce gamification, as well as augmented reality and virtual reality (VR) games,” explained a report in March 2021 by EY.
At a gaming industry level, we’re definitely able to see the future of cloud gaming, said Rajan Navani, CEO of JetSynthesys, a Digital Entertainment & Technology Company.
According to our sources, Airtel is looking into further possibilities of popularising 5G for the usage of cloud gaming. This is indeed a huge breakthrough for all game lovers across the country.
