CUG stands for Closed User group. This is a supplementary service offered by various mobile service providers. Subscribers can make free outgoing calls and receive incoming ones from any other member within this closed group.


Emergency calls and SMS services also are included in this plan. CUG members are also eligible to receive and make calls to people outside the group, but charges apply for that.

How CUG works

To make a Closed User Group, a minimum of 3 members is required. There isn’t any limit on the maximum number of members. At the start of every month, fixed monthly charges will be deducted for CUG from your main balance.

BSNL CUG plans

Bsnl offers great closed User group plans to prepaid customers across India. BSNL CUG plans are extremely economical and if you are planning to form a Local CUG of only three members, this would be the best option.

  • BSNL Local CUG for 3 members cost only Rs240/-
  • BSNL National CUG will cost you Rs 540/-

Forming a BSNL CUG

If you are planning to form a BSNL CUG, there are a few procedures to be implemented.

  1. Visit your nearest BSNL customer care centre
  2. Apply to Formation& Activation of BSNL CUG.
  3. The customer service executive will guide you through the steps to form a CUG.

BSNL subscribers who have taken the Saral Ananth Plan are not eligible to apply for the CUG plan. All other existing 2G, as well as 3G subscribers, are eligible to use the CUG facility.

The validity period of BSNL CUG

The validity period for BSNL CUG is one month.

Insufficient balance during deduction will cause a few issues. If any member fails in maintaining sufficient balance for the deduction, the service operator will give him/her a time frame of three days within which the payment has to be made. If not, the customer group ID will be revoked. The subscribers will no longer be able to enjoy the CUG benefits any longer.

Reliance Jio CUG plans for Indian Railways

The Reliance Jio CUG plans for Indian Railways has gained the appreciation of so many subscribers.Under this scheme, Reliance Jio offers 4G/3G connections and all the calls are free of charge.
